Our Mission

The Stage 1 Theatre Company is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and development of young artists in the field of drama, enabling them to gain confidence, artistic skill and friendship through theatre.

Our aim is to produce theatre which reflects and enhances the lives and diversity of youth in our community, and to give a voice to young artists.

Stage 1 actively promotes the development of theatre artists and the growth of an arts community through youth theatre instruction and the fostering of emerging artists.

In so doing we aspire to enrich the cultural life of our community and to inspire new audiences to a life-long passion for theatre.

A Short History

In the fall of 2001, a group of people interested in developing two original scripts for a youth theatre festival approached the Sault Theatre Workshop with a proposal which would allow them to operate as a subsidiary under their tutelage. The Sault Theatre Workshop (est. 1948) accepted and "we" and "they", became "us".

The two productions in development were Humans, Being and Having the Wolf For Dinner. These two productions, along with a third, Wind of Change, were entered into the Soothfest Teen Drama Festival in April, 2002.
